Florida Crash Watch uses the Florida Highway Patrol RSS feed to detect listed incidents and the related HTML view to add source fields. The importer computes a SHA-256 value for each successful source response before parsing and saves that value in the ordinary poll record.
Each record is keyed to its FHP CAD identifier. Revisions are compared with earlier observations, and publication is limited to records carrying an approved explicit signal such as injury, fatality, significant road impact, or commercial-vehicle involvement. Unknown codes, conflicting facts, stale first sightings, and malformed locations are held for review.
The site says “reported by FHP” because this process verifies what appeared in the selected feeds; it does not independently reconstruct the crash or guarantee statewide completeness.
